Fall 2024 Clothing Trends
•Posted on September 16 2024
At Sweet Elaine Boutique, we do our best to stay ahead of the trends. We do a ton of research to know what to buy and what to pass. This year, we were able to go to Dallas Market to buy most of the Fall Collection in person.
When go through all the designer booths it starts to become very clear what the trends will be. Here is a summary of the top things we saw for 2024 Fall Clothing Trends.
Fall 2024 Clothing Trends
1. Florals. The biggest trend we saw a market is the return of florals. Floral prints had been kinda taking a backseat in the fashion world, but they are going to be HUGE this Fall season. The designers are calling the print "Fall Wallflower Prints". We got some sneak peeks from some of the designers newest "mini" collections or "edits" and the inspiration was truly wallpaper. Dana and I couldn't help but thinksome of the prints looked like the wallpaper people had in their houses in the 80s and early 90s.
Pictured above are examples of some of the "Fall Wallflower" prints we saw at market in lots of designs.
2. Wide Leg Everything. Like we said in the denim blog, don't put your skinny jeans away, but definitely make sure you own some wide legs of some sort this season. Period.
These wide leg jeans are called Meg from Kut from the Kloth. They are a customer favorite for a reason and so on trend. Add this striped top and you've got a great, simple look.
3. Midi Skirt Lengths. A mini skirt always has a place in fashion, but midi skirt was obviously where it is at this Fall season. The skirts most often were right at the calf-- not maxis and not knee length. Perhaps we will see some more 50s inspired looks as the designers create!
This A Line Skirt from Downeast is not quite midi length, but it is definitely longer than a normal skirt. This 50s look is so much fun and we're here for it!
4. Mens Inspired Looks. Before we went to market, we polled a bunch of customers to see what they wanted us to find. Several Sweetlifers provided feedback for wide leg trousers and other "men's inspired" looks. We suspect customers are asking for it because wide leg is everywhere this Fall 2024 Season. It was in jeans, in trousers and even in shorts.
We couldn't get away from Men's inspired looks like a wide leg trouser, or a structured blazer. I wouldn't call it androgynous, but more inspo, as the models had very little under the blazers and it was quite sexy. Belts, white button downs, pleated trousers and structured blazers were all over the place.
5. Mixed Media fabrics. So this term "mixed media" is a designer term, but there is no other way to describe it. It's where fabrics are pieces together that may or may not go together, but when viewed from a distance they go together. Think floral against plaid, paired with a chiffon for added texture. Mixing materials was everywhere.
6. Leopard. Last Fall, classic leopard wasn't trending and instead the designers were using the entire animal for the prints. This Fall, the designs are back to classic and leopard prints were everywhere, especially when paired with all the neutrals described below..
7. Classic Fall Colors. Ordinarily, there are new colors that pop up here and there in the Fall Season. Last Fall, we saw a lot of 70s inspired colors like avocado and harvest gold. Don't get me wrong, we still have some new colors or featured colors this Fall, but we couldn't help but notice the trend back to the Classics. Camels, creams, black and navy. We suspect people reverting back to classic colors is a result of an economy that is having ladies be more practical. See this color swatch example that we pulled from the Pantone Fall colors. This is the edited version that we saw the most of and believe will be trending this season.
So there you are Sweetlifers! Hopefully this short list helps you "get in the know" for all the trends this upcoming Fall 2024. We're loving the vibe and call to classic looks. We hope you do too!
