2024 Fall Boot Trends
•Posted on October 18 2024
Fall Boot Trends...it is probably the most requested topic we get in the store. Every Fall, ladies ask what's in style with boots and what is not. It's so much this year, we decided to dedicate a whole blog post to just boots. The topic is THAT hot and important.
Boots don't normally have huge swings in trends from year to year. For the most part, the same types of boots style in style. So, then you ask, what changes? The changes are subtle; and sometimes so subtle you can get away with wearing an older boot style than you can in other years. This year, that's not the case. The boot changes have been subtle over the past 2-3 years and this Fall 2024 the boots do look different than what we were wearing in 2021.
Why does this matter? Well, when styles start to change slowly, all the sudden you'll notice of your boots are not in style anymore and instantly will look dated. Yep, I said it....the dreaded word in your closet. Dated. You don't want to look dated. I don't care how old you are...you want to look stylish, not dated.
First, let's break down the boots that are always in style:
- Tall knee boots
- Chelsea Boots
- Ankle booties
- Cowboy boots
Easy peasy, right? Well, this Fall 2024, there are differences in these boot styles that are going to make your boots in style, or not.
When shopping for boots, there are several things to look into:
1. Heel height
2. Heel style
3. Shaft height
4. Toe style
5. Material
6. Color
These six points above are important to take into consideration for any type of boot you own, whether it is a cowboy boot or a fashion boot. These six points are also what shoe designers subtly change each year. All the sudden, you'll find your current boots no longer look stylish because the boots that are in style the current season will have too many differences.
So, what is in style for Fall 2024 on these six points? Let's go through that:
- Heel height. For years, boot heels were high and sometimes too high. The heel heights have been slowly trending downward and now for Fall 2024, the best heel height in boots is what's called a "kitten heel". That means the heel is 2" or shorter.
- Heel style. Blocky heels have been trending out of style for a few years, but this year they are REALLY out. Unless your boot is a cowboy boot or a riding boot, the heel is no longer blocky, but more sleek and more like a heel you'd find on a pump.
- Shaft height. Over the years, I have learned people often pay attention to heel height and heel style, but haven't given much thought to the shaft height. There is magic in finding a higher shaft boot that's not a knee boot! When you are looking for boots, ankle height is pretty self explanatory, but the mid shaft height makes it so much easier to wear boots with straight leg and wide leg jeans. Mid calf and knee height is definitely the trendiest height in boots, but the mid calf height is the most difficult to find in store.
- Toe style. Who knew designers would make a boot one year with a round toe and the next year they'd switch it up and do the same boot with a pointed toe? It's crazy really when you start to pay attention to those details. This Fall 2024 Season, the toe style that is most in style is closer to a pointy style. Varying pointedness is working, but round is out.
- Material. Boots and leather just go together, but for 2024, suede over smooth/shiny leather is definitely more in style. We're not seeing the sock style boots this year either.
- Color. Again, this is another part of the boot category we find most customers don't pay attention to. When they have a great boot, they look for a brown or a black. BUT, if you want to be on trend, look for boots that are red/burgundy, white, camel and buff color. These four colors are the highest trending colors right now.
Whew! That's a whole lot of information. Hopefully this breakdown makes sense. If not, here are the recommend Fall 2024 Boot Choices from Sweet Elaine Boutique. I love your trending posts! I am going to be out of style with my rounded toes and heels, I do not do pointy or heels of any kind, I am 100% about comfort! I will at least be in style with some of my boot colors, this time of year is my favorite!
